W 13 FROM ORIGAMI TO ARCHITECTURE

From Origami to Architecture

Form Manufacturing, 2014-15 Master Class at iCAD – International Course on Architectural Design.

@ University of Florence, 2015

With reference to the educational experiences of Joseph Albers at the Bauhaus and Blackmountain, the class investigates  form shaping and – in particular – what material can do in respect of their features and technologies.
The models start with experiments in rigid origami and kirigami without aiming at making a product. In subsequent stages, students proceed with the design  of a building system considering the use of the technologies of laser cutting and the assembly of components must be done without the use of glues, nails or screws.
In some advanced cases the project is oriented towards the realization of dynamic and interactive systems with the use of Arduino, servos and sensors
